Bret Cohen
About Bret

"These songs are REALLY good.  Different from what I was expecting...  Really pure and honest.  Beautiful stuff!"  - WPRB Princeton

Bret Cohen is an accomplished singer, percussionist and composer. His teachers include Chucky Joseph, Daud Chabwera, Marcy Francis and Byard Lancaster.  After earning the title of master in 2002 from Baba Robert Crowder (Kulu Mele), he has continually studied the mysteries and joys of sound.  Collaborations include Sun Ra Arkestra, Rufus Harley, Kunyang Lin/Dancers and many others.  Roughly in the realm of Fela Kuti, Deva Premal and John Coltrane, Bret's sound is earthy and pure while simultaneously new, wild and free.

His current offering must be experienced to be understood:
Bret Cohen Meditative Kirtan...  Powerful healing chanting rooted in world percussion, jazz improvisation and heart-warming passion, these gatherings are deeply enjoyed.   Don't miss this illuminating experience!

"...a real musician."  - Mohawane Mahlöle

"...definitely creating some music out there!"  - Amrit Nataraj
